Defence Cinematics: A Custom Website for End State by Fastrak Creative

End State – Cinematic Defence Website Design by Fastrak Creative

End State makes specialist films and photography for defence, security and advanced technology. Their work is cinematic, precise and built to withstand scrutiny, so their website had to be too. Fastrak Creative designed and built a custom website with a dark, film-grade aesthetic and carefully choreographed motion. The result is a site that feels like the opening frames of an End State production.

1. The Brief

End State needed a website that matched the standard of its own work: cinematic, authoritative and credible to subject matter experts. Generic agency sites miss this audience, so the site had to bridge cinematic storytelling with operational reality.

The main requirements were:

  • Reflect the brand's visual language — dark, moody imagery with dramatic side and rear lighting, carried through every page.
  • Feature bespoke artwork — key field and studio photographs reworked into stylised, glitch-textured hero images for each page.
  • Build trust quickly — monochrome logos of key clients and accreditations (such as NSV, JOSCAR and the Armed Forces Covenant) high on the home page.
  • Explain the offer clearly — a value proposition and a structured breakdown of five specialist services, from operational showcases to bid and tender support.
  • Showcase the work — a video-led portfolio headed by the showreel, alongside studio and field photography.
  • Demystify the process — a step-by-step guide from first idea to final asset delivery.
  • Make contact simple — a focused enquiry form capturing name, company, email and message.

2. Project Overview

End State is a UK video and photography production company working exclusively in defence, security and advanced technology. Its clients and accreditations include the Ministry of Defence, Royal Marines Commando, DSTL, Thales, Leonardo, Helsing and the Metropolitan Police. Everything from concept and planning to filming, editing and secure asset delivery is handled in-house.

End State came to Fastrak Creative for a website that matched the standard of its films. It needed to look as cinematic as the footage, communicate credibility to a highly technical audience, and stand apart from generic agency templates.

3. The Challenge

Defence is a sector where image matters, but showiness can backfire. End State's audience of military personnel, defence engineers and security teams values precision, discretion and substance. A loud, over-designed website would undermine trust. A plain one would fail to show the cinematic quality End State is hired for.

The brief had to balance several tensions:

  • Cinematic but credible. The site needed the drama of a film title sequence while still reading as a serious, professional supplier.
  • Discretion by design. Much defence work can't be shown publicly, so the design had to convey capability through atmosphere, typography and motion as much as through portfolio content.
  • Standing out in a niche. Defence media suppliers often rely on stock templates. End State needed a bespoke look that was instantly recognisable.
  • Interactive without the weight. Rich animation and real-time graphics can slow a site down and harm SEO. Every effect had to load fast and degrade gracefully on mobile and lower-powered devices.
  • Accessible to all. Government and defence buyers expect accessibility standards to be met, so motion and contrast had to be handled responsibly.

4. Our Solution

We approached the site the way End State approaches a shoot: start with the mood, then make every frame count. The design is built around one idea, Defence Cinematics, with the confidence and restraint of a film title sequence.

A dark, film-grade palette. The interface is set on near-black, lit with soft mint-grey tones rather than pure white. It feels like footage graded for the big screen, keeps contrast high for readability, and lets imagery and motion carry the drama.

Typography with operational precision. Headlines are set in uppercase Helvetica Neue with generous tracking, giving them a clean, authoritative feel. This is paired with a monospaced typeface used for numbering and details, which nods to technical briefings, timecodes and mission documentation.

Motion with a purpose. Rather than decorating every element, we choreographed motion at key moments: a tiled loading sequence that resolves into the hero and content that reveals as you scroll. Each animation is timed to feel deliberate, like a cut rather than a gimmick.

Custom-built, not templated. The site is a bespoke build, with component-scoped styling so every section is pixel-specific to the design. Server-side rendering keeps it fast and fully indexable.

6. Development Process

  1. Discovery and art direction. We studied End State's footage, audience and competitors to define a "Defence Cinematics" direction, setting the palette, type pairing and motion principles before any pages were drawn.
  2. UX/UI design. We designed a lean page structure (Home, Services, Portfolio, Process, About, Contact) with numbered navigation and clear routes to contact. Key motion moments were prototyped early.
  3. Development. We built the custom Nuxt front end, the real-time WebGL shader, the tiled loading sequence and scroll reveals, with server-side rendering and optimised images for speed.
  4. Testing and launch. We tested animation performance across devices and browsers, checked accessibility (contrast, keyboard navigation, skip link) and validated structured data before launch.

7. Results & Outcomes

End State now has a website that looks and feels like its work: cinematic, controlled and credible.

  • A distinctive brand presence. The dark, film-grade design and real-time visuals set End State apart from template-led competitors in defence media.
  • Credibility at first glance. Clients and accreditations such as the MOD, Royal Marines Commando and DSTL are presented with confidence, building trust before a visitor reads a word.
  • Rich interaction, fast delivery. Server-side rendering, optimised images and lightweight real-time graphics keep the site fast, indexable and mobile-friendly.
  • Ready for search and social. Structured data and dynamic share images help every page present professionally on Google and LinkedIn.
