# **Moto101: From Shopify Template to Bespoke Headless Build**

The collaboration between Fastrak Creative and Moto101 has spanned over four years of continuous development and optimisation. During this period, Moto101 has experienced significant growth in both their ecommerce sales and practice track bookings. They needed a partner who understood both e-commerce best practices and the specific requirements of the motocross community.

## Overview

Fastrak Creative took Moto101 from a standard Shopify template to a fully bespoke headless website, built around how its customers actually shop. Moto101 is a motocross shop and practice track near Grantham, Lincolnshire, selling new and used bikes, rider kit and parts, and running track days, a workshop and storage.

## The Move to Headless

We originally set Moto101 up on a standard Shopify template. As the business grew, the template began to limit what the site could do, so Moto101 made the leap to a full headless build.

The new site keeps Shopify's reliable back end but runs on a custom front end built from scratch. That gives Moto101 far more flexibility in how the site looks and works, and a platform that is bespoke and tailored to the business rather than shaped by a template.

## Research & Design

Before designing anything, we analysed how Moto101's customers use the site. Background research showed that most visitors browse on their phones, so the new site was designed mobile first.

A full design phase came before the build, including mock-ups of the key pages, so Moto101 could review and refine the site before development began. The result is a complete UI/UX revamp: a cleaner, more user-friendly site that is easier to navigate on any screen, and especially on mobile.

## Products & Navigation

- **Full product alignment** — we restructured the whole catalogue so every product now follows a consistent structure. This saves Moto101 a lot of back-end admin time and keeps the shop organised as it grows.
- **Product-driven navigation** — the navigation was completely overhauled and is now driven by the products themselves. It is dynamic, changing automatically depending on what is in stock, so customers are never sent to empty categories.
- **Automatic distributor sync** — products sync automatically with distributors, keeping stock levels accurate without manual updates.
- **SEO on every upload** — products are SEO optimised as they are uploaded, helping each one get found in search.

## Selling Bikes Online

Moto101 can now sell motorcycles directly from the website through classified bike adverts, each showing the bike's key details, price and condition.

We also added the option for customers to pay a deposit to secure a bike, rather than taking the full payment through Shopify. Riders can reserve the bike they want online, and Moto101 can complete the sale directly with the customer.

## Track Days & Motolab

- **Live track days from DIRTi** — we integrated Moto101's track days from DIRTi, a motocross track booking platform. Upcoming events feed live into the Moto101 site, so riders always see what's on and can book straight away.
- **Motolab workshop** — we added a dedicated area for Motolab, Moto101's workshop, giving it a clear place on the site and improving the leads it receives.

## Speed, SEO & AI Search

The new front end runs on streamlined code, making the site noticeably faster. That speed improves the experience for mobile shoppers and supports search rankings.

The site is also fully optimised for AI chats and searches, so Moto101's bikes, kit and track days can be found whether riders use Google or an AI assistant.

## The Outcome

Moto101 now has a bespoke, mobile-first website that brings its shop, bike sales, track and workshop together in one place. A clear product structure, stock-driven navigation and automatic distributor sync cut back-end admin, while deposits, live track days and Motolab open new routes to sales and enquiries.

Most importantly, the headless platform gives Moto101 the flexibility and structure to keep building, supporting the business as it grows.
